This was the series that started the wide spread popularity in U.S. opening the way for Mobile Suit Gundam related series to being widely accepted among U.S. Audiences. The series maintained many elements of the U.C. with a slight twist leading to some confusion among younger viewers on its relationship with series of the Universal Century. The story features Five uniquely trained Gundam pilots pitted against the Earth's Sphere Alliance and later militaristic organizations oppressing the Earth and orbiting Colonies.

With the release of the Gundam Wing MSiAs came the opportunity of other MSiAs to be accessible to stores outside of import stores. While the quality of some of this figures are crude compared to latest releases certain figures like the Leos still are somewhat popular. While there is talk a of Heavyarms receiving the version 2 treatment, there are still fans that would like OZ, Romefeller, etc units to be made into MSiAs like the Virgo and Aries units.
